St. Patrick's Day - Green Home Brew: Root Beer Recipe

What St. Patrick's Day is complete without some Green Beer?  None!!  That is of course unless you do not value the Luck of the Irish.... which I DO!!!!

Might we suggest for our root beer loving fans and all "Straight Edgers" everywhere that we begin a tradition of Green Root Beer every St. Patty's Day!!!

Last year I simply drowned a small bottle of green food coloring into a 2 liter of A&W and was on my way..... check out the post from 2011:

This year I got all "Swagger" like our root beer brewing buddy, John, at and tried to home brew my own Green Root Beer. I must admit though, I am in no way as hard core as John who brews his own extract from raw materials.... I just bought extract from Wal-Mart.

I have been using this self seal 1 liter bottle to do my own micro brewing (so to speak) and for this project it worked out perfect.  The following is my recipe.....

I filled and chilled my self seal bottle with 2/3 liters of carbonated soda.
In a sauce pan I brought to a boil 2 cups of water, 1/3 cup of white cane sugar, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 3 Tblsp of Root Beer Extract, 1/4 tsp Maple Extract, and 1 Tblsp of Green Food Coloring.  Boil for 5 minutes, then cool, once cooled combine with carbonated water, and enjoy!!!

May the Luck of Leprechauns be filled in you as you enjoy your new St. Patrick's Day Tradition.... pop-a-top for Luck!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day
